So we expanded our living room to include a more formal dining area a few years ago and decided it was the perfect opportunity to gut the room down to studs and get everything finished right. Since we liked what was in the room—the bookcases, the window placement, and the fireplace—all we looked to do was upgrade.
So the painted plywood bookshelves and fireplace mantel installed by one of the previous owners, were replaced by simple oak pieces that added a richness to the room without complicating the simple lines and woodwork in the rest of the house.
Right now I build very functional pieces, but am starting to add higher level design. Here I was looking to play off the other mission pieces of furniture we own, with an even simpler Japanese influence.
Thanks for looking.

Very nice, I love the finish. I just completed a similar one, in the Arts and Crafts style for our living room. Must be that season.
