Reception Desk for Doctors Office

This is a reception desk I just finished for our friend’s office, she was moving to a bigger office and needed a counter to fit her space.

She was very happy with it. It turned out much better than I expected.

The desk and bar tops are southern yellow pine. The base and planking are all pine 2by and 1by material from the home center.

The door uses some pretty sweet double action hinges that I got at lowes. As the name implies it swings in both directions.

This was my first time spraying finish, using the Earlex 5500.

The base is sealed with a wash coat of shellac, followed by coats of tinted shellac (transtint dark vintage maple).

The top is Dark Mission Brown dye, sealed with shellac.

Everything was then coated with Minwax Satin Polycrylic. This is my first time using this stuff and I’m really happy with how it came out, a great product that was very easy to spray.

Everything was modular, I used a combination of dominos and pocket screws to make attachment points strong while being held tight with the crews.

Questions and comments are welcome.

Thanks for looking!

Stellar work, Mauricio! I’m sure they were very happy to have that reception desk and you were happy to have it out of your garage, too!

Very well done! I’d be happy to have such a nice piece if I were some person that has an office :)

Nice job Maur, it complements the flooring nicely. You had good results with the wash coat.
