This is an interesting project because of how it was built.
I have a friend who says she has always been interested in woodworking. She has no tools and no experience. I invited her to my shop and agreed to guide and teach her as she built this dog feeder. She got some very meaningful experience. I even had her cut grooves with both a dado blade and router table to get exposed to both techniques. We mounted a router to a piece of plywood and used it to cut the circles. It was exciting for me to see her excitement with each completed task.
The top is connected with hinges. Cutting mortises for the hinges was another teaching opportunity.
Because I am disabled it was great to have her clean up my shop at the conclusion of each session. She came each Saturday morning for 1.5 hours for 5 weeks.
I’m ready to do it again.
