I was asked to design and make 39 awards for the annual Hillcross Snowmobile Race which this year was a race up the main hill at the Terry Peak Ski Area just outside of Lead SD. These awards are 6 inches wide and ten inches tall. The base was made out if 1 inch Poplar with a Golden Oak stain applied to them. The man and trees inserts were made out of 1/8 inch Baltic Birch plywood with a Dark Walnut stain.
I cut the shape of the base as close as I could and cut the 1/8 inch slit in them on the table saw, and then ran them through the CNC machine to add the contours to the top, the inserts were cut out in the Laser.
There were 13 Amateur Class categories for this year’s race each having a first, second, and third place award. I do a lot of awards for the Northern Hills Recreation Association and try to make a unique award for each event.
