Some maintenance guys came by the other day and trimmed up the trees around our battalion headquarters. I asked them to leave the bigger pieces which I promptly started turning. After battling the iron-like wood that I had been turning, this was like cutting thorugh butter. So nice… Anyway, it was just a quick project. Made a bowl of the other side of the log and the heart wood lines up nicely when they are stacked rim on rim. Not sure of the wood species, although at least I can identify the living tree it came from. Finished with tung oil and beeswax.

Nice pair of bowls. Green wood is a whole different experiance from old dried wood. Lot easier to turn but wait and see how much it moves. Sometimes you get some very interesting curves and warps.
Keep it up.
