A pair of Valet Boxes for the bosses.

These are a pair of Valet Boxes that I made for the owners of the company I work for. The wife of one of owners saw the walnut and maple box I did on my phone pictures and asked if I would make one for her husbands birthday. I decided that since both of the owners birthdays are a week apart that I would make a pair of them one for each owner.

These are from the same Brazilian cherry that I used for the Mission styled box in my last project. I liked the tile top box that Greg Salata did so much that I sort of copied it. http://lumberjocks.com/projects/22853

The sides are mortised into the legs and I did a loose top instead of a hinged one. The guides for the top are oak and the handle and feet are pined with dowels. The finish is six coats of tung oil.

Fantastic boxes. Outstanding design and joinery. These will make very fine gifts. I am sure your bosses will love them.

Keep it up.

Handsome Work, Keith!! There’s a lot I like here!! The M & T connections, the arch along the bottom, the “feet”, the handle treatment, the Wood and finish… Classy Job!! I love ‘em, and so should the bosses!!

Nice workmanship.

Is the bottom notched at the corners, or did you notch the legs?

They look great,
Steve

Thank you for all your nice comments. Steve the bottom is notched not the corner posts. I wanted to rout the corner posts but felt that the space from the cut for the bottom and the mortises for the sides would be too small and therefore weak so.. Notch the bottom…
