Just wanted to post a photo of this burl I am working on…Absolutely amazing…!!
This is a Redwood “tree burl” (Which means it would have grown up in the trunk of the Redwood, not at ground level like most Redwood Burl.)
It comes in at 5’ 10” by 6’ 8”...solid flame and birdseye grain…Funny thing is that this is a rescued business sign, it has (really bad) freehanded lettering routed into the reverse! From a day when they saw no end to the supply of Redwood burl…And here it is probably a once in a lifetime find.
I’ll be finishing a dining table from it, and even leaving the old sign on the back for history sake.

If I actually had to cut into that piece, my heart would probably stroke out from stress caused by fear of ruining it.
This is definately a measure 100 times cut once piece.
