This is a jewelry box design from Wood Magazine (Gem of a jewelry box) that I found on a few LJ members project posts. The box is made out of Walnut and Ash. The top is a small piece of ash that was split and book-matched for an interesting grain pattern. Kinda looks like a fly. What girl wouldn’t want a jewelry box that resembles a fly!
The finish is several coats of Formby’s Tung Oil finish high gloss. I usually don’t like high gloss but the finish on these boxes looked good and it was a much easier finish to apply without having to rub it out for a more traditional rubbed look. Each drawer has a felt liner that was glued using spray adhesive. I made a number of these boxes using different combinations of walnut, ash, cherry and maple. The hinges are Brusso solid brass. They are nice but a little expensive.
