Wine Box

My Fiance asked if I would build a wine box. The purpose of this box is that it will hold this bottle of wine and notes that we will write each other. It has two locks on it, she has the key to one and I have the key to the other. Once we have our first married-couple impasse of whatever sort, we will open the box, share the bottle of wine, and read the notes. Hopefully the wine is corked by the time that day comes!

This is a pretty straight-foward box but I got to try some new things for me in the process, including hand-planing the top and bottom. Box joints were made with a Wandel jig. It is African mahogany finished in danish oil.

Lovely box very nicely done. Love the wood that you chose too. Where did you get the cool locks?

Nice wine box but did you mean the wine should be or should not be corked by the time is needs to be opened? Corked wine is not good wine.

Thanks! The locks are from ebay.
My thought was if the wine is corked that means we made it a long time without having to open the box. Time will tell.

Nice box and very cool story behind it.

I caught your thought after I posted mine. I tried to edit my original response but it didn’t work. You are right – hopefully it will be a long time.
