These are two frames I made for my church. Actually one is for the church I go to and one for another church as well. The picture measures 15”X20”. The frames are made of red oak with a piece of bubinga in all the corners to strengthen the miter.
The back is birch plywood and to hold it all in are pieces of bailing wire cut to fit in the small holes I drilled in the side. I found that these work really well and you dont have to buy any special hardware. To hang the picture I used a forstner bit and drilled it then chiseled the waste away to make a shallow mortise I chiseled in a back bevel on the inside where the screw will go so it wont slide off easily. Again a good way to save money on hardware. None needed! I finished these with some homemade danish oil.
The picture is the divine mercy image which is usually hanging in catholic churches but ours didnt have one so I offered to make one and the priest wanted one for both of the churches he runs.
The work I do for the church is always free because woodworking is what I love and you cant go wrong when your working for the lord.
