I’ve been admiring projects by fellow woodworkers for a few months now and have decided it’s time to add a project of my own. This is a flag box for my sister’s FIL who served honorably in WWII, Korea and VietNam. He retired as a Marine Lt Col way back in the 70’s. His uniform still hangs in the closet pressed and ready, because as he told me. “you never really retire, they can call you back at any time (he’s 84 now!). It was a bit of a struggle to get him to give up his medals for a proper display case, and I hope he will appreciate my efforts. The flag was requested by our Congressman and was flown over the Capitol for a day. The Congressman was kind enough to include the certificate thanking him for his service.
The wood is Phillipine Mahogany with Walnut Splines for strength at the joints, and 4 coats of shellac.

Now that is one special project! I see the bronze star in there. God Bless to him and your family from one Veteran to another! We can’t thank our men and women who serve this great Country enough!
Very well done!

Nice work Sheri! The splines add a nice touch. May have to try that myself one day. I am always honored to build a flag case for a member of the military.

Great job Sheri. The case looks great. He sounds like an extremely proud American and can’t help but like what you did for him. Its always nice to make something like this for someone who has done so much for our country.
