This rocking chair was in rough shape, seat was broke in two places, one back post was broken, I made two new ones, two back spindles were missing and one of the tenons were broke on one , I made 5 new one and picked the best 3 out of 5. and all the legs and stretchers needed reglued, someone had touche up the finish earlier and didn’t do a very good job. The arms were steam bent and were in good condition. Total approximate hours to repair was about 60 hours. It was for the Pastor of the church I belong, I charged nothing
It has been in their family for a 100 years.

I actually have a similar project and not sure how to tackle it. It is my mom’s rocking chair she had as a child. No real serious repairs need to be done. But it does need a good refinish. I have been told to sand it and refinish it that way but there is a painting on it that I’m trying to not ruin more then it already is. And also heard about this vegetable oil and Apple cider vinegar concoction that will “repair” an old finish. This is for my mom so I’m not trying to mess up her favorite childhood chair. Any advise for a stumped son?

Nice job on the repair. No doubt your pastor was thrilled with it.
