Quick box made for a good friend’s neice’s wedding reception. First time I have ever done box joints on my table saw. Still like my jig, but this worked really well. Mostly walnut, with maple stripe, purple heart and lace wood lid, and lace wood for the trim around the bottom.

Beautiful box. I love the woods used, the colors, and the box joints. Where’s Cooper? Looks like my back yard in PA.

Is this purple heart framing the top? How do you keep the vibrant color? Every time I sand purple heart it goes brown on me.

It is purple heart. The only time I have that trouble is when I sand by hand. Don’t have that trouble when using a power sander and I don’t understand why either.

Ah yes the Purple Heart!... magnificent timber, no wonder the US ARMY decided to name a military award after it,

It will go brown when being milled then after exposure to the sun its colour returns, maybe thats why the Award was given the same name.

Crashman is on to it!
