Natural Edge Orchard Cherry Bowl

Here’s a natural edge bowl I turned recently from an orchard cherry crotch that I rescued from a firewood pile up in Salt Lake City. Being from Las Vegas we’re definitely limited on the different types of wood we have available locally to turn, so it’s always a treat when I can get my hands on something different. I turned it at a meeting of my wood turning group under the watchful eye of Mr. Jimmy Clewes. Many of you may be familiar with Jimmy, he’s an amazing woodturning and a spectacular instructor. There’s a few of us here in Vegas that are lucky enough to be able to turn and hangout with Jimmy on a pretty regular basis when he’s home from his travels. If you’re interested in getting a look at the turning in action I uploaded a quick video to my youtube channel. Check it out and let me know what you think. Thanks!

Nice bowl, but the video takes the cake! Too often, woodturning, or any woodworking videos for that matter, contain music that’s more suited for my grandmother’s knitting class, or in the bathroom at a mortuary, and the editing is just to condense the time. Yours was upbeat, energizing, masterfully edited, and made me want to immediately go to the shop and make some sawdust!

Well done sir! Well…ef’n… done!!

Thank you very much! I really appreciate that, it’s always exciting to hear that a video I made gets someone pumped up and wanting to get out in the shop and work. I was pretty proud of this one, it’s only 2 minutes long but it took a long time to edit hahaha. That’s probably the nicest most amazing comment I’ve ever gotten about one of my videos and it really means a lot to me!

Thank you! Turning with Jimmy is always a treat. I’m lucky enough to be able to hangout and turn with him on a couple times a month when he’s home. It’s helped my turning progress immensely.
