Project Information

This was a really fun project for my son and he is getting miles of enjoyment out it. I was scouring the Internet for almost a year for some inspiration. Found the basic plans online from Anna white (I think) and also a few other fire truck bed picture. This one is completely Baltic Birch. A bit of over kill, but I wanted everything to be straight and true. Pretty straight forward build. Glue, screw, and pocket holes galore!

The first two steps also have storage in them with a piano hinged lid. Used touch lights for the head lights. Inside, not pictured, is a steering consol complete with steering wheel and two light up toggle switches. They control the LED tape light on the inside and the marker lights on the outside.

Also took apart two of his old toys, a Russian police car to get the siren out of it and another toy to get a giant button. Now he has a siren!!!! Mom loves that!

Awesome design and work for your son. He'll always remember that bed and will probably pass it on down to his kids.

Brilliant idea and looks fantastic, Ritmann. Very creative integration of lights and siren. I believe parents are willing to spend $$ for their kids to have the best upbringing, thus making kids furniture and toys is a viable business plan if you're interested in a professional woodworking. I'm pretty sure you could sell this quickly.
