Finally, a project that was more or less just for fun. I made these boxes for my wife and daughter for Valentines Day. I wanted to do some sort of puzzle box but couldn’t find a plan, so I designed these boxes with a semi-hidden latch. I also wanted to incorporate their first initials in the design, so one is an S and the other a K. The wood is Purpleheart and Bubinga. The S box lid is pinned with brass pins in opposite corners and slides open on dovetail joints and is secured with magnets set under the lid and just proud for the connection point. The K box lid slides on a tongue and grove joint which is mitered so only the top of the lid is seen, and secured with a spring latch that is released by pressing the button on top. The latch and the keyed joints are made from a scrap of Cocobolo. Finished with Tung oil.

Scott, that’s a unique design for both of your boxes. Very clever with the initials and latch on the K box. Very nice!.

Nice and unique. That’s thinking outside the box.
I like them,
