I inherited these old Craftsman scraper chisels from my brother-in-law about 2 months ago and figured they should be in their own special box. The sides, ends, and tool rests are cherry. The top and bottom are 1/4” birch plywood. Unfortunately I found out the birch veneer is very thin. The box has 4 coats of linseed oil with clear lacquer on the top only. My brother-in-law was a master carpenter, cabinet maker, ship builder and my inspiration to do more and better woodworking. I’m still working on the better part.
The box I made for his ashes is in the last picture. It is made from walnut, maple with purple heart runners. It was my way of saying thank you to him and his family. We sent him off with a pack of cigarettes and a little bottle of whiskey. Provisions so to speak.
