This was a recipe box that my wife and I made for our daughter’s wedding shower. She laminated all of our favorite family recipies and I made the box for them. The picture on the inside was of the couple when they were engaged and a New York City rooftop view. It was decoapauged from a Photoshoped picture. The peacock was a wedding theme used for invitations and other decorations. I used a magnifying glass and the sun to burn in the design on the top. I made a stencil using aluminum foil cut out with an exacto knife with the foil being glued on the wood to hold it in place.
The wood is poplar, and had I known that it was going to come out so well I would have used a nicer wood. My daughter was very happy with it.

Nicely done…......as a kid we used to burn bugs with the sun/ magnifying glass method…..never thought about wood burning! Cool. Looks great.

Very nice box and I think the poplar worked real nicely! Like others have stated, I have never heard of that method of burning wood but it looks like it worked great. I imagine that your daughter will treasure this recipe box and tell her children that Grandpa made it for her.
