A couple weeks back I was cleaning the kid’s living room. When I pulled an old coloring book off the table I found a nice surprise. One of my boys had spilled his milk and then covered it with the coloring book. The milk soaked into the wicker top and we had a fungus forest growing. The wife wanted me to throw the table away, but I decided to replace the top instead.

I decided to just veneer a piece of plywood I had sitting around. Probably a little to artistic for the kid’s room, but I had fun making it. The background is Mahogany, the sun is Bubinga, and the rays are figured Makore. The cost of the materials made my wife happy. The only thing I paid for was the glue and finish. All the wood was free. It is amazing what companies throw out these days.

ooooh no… not the old “cover it with a book” scheme…
I’m glad that you were able to save the table (love the frame).

And now—well, I think you just have to thank the kids because a great table now became a masterpiece!!!
Well done

Awesome score… I love finding and re-using materials and trash Someone was throwing out a teak veneer entertainment center.. I took it to the studio saved all the hardware and cut the damages stuff away and trimmed off as much teak as I could… free! except for the time. Great design!
