Here are some clamp extensions I made recently for my coffee table project. My longest clamps are 48” long, but they weren’t long enough as my 2nd picture shows. So what to do? I suppose I could have bought some pipe clamps and tried to find pipes that were a good size. But Instead I decided to make these things, which ended up working quite well! I made sure to countersink the bolts so that the extensions can lay flat. Also the 3rd picture shows how I left the very bottom piece longer than the middle piece. That is to keep the extension from slipping off the edge if I really crank up the pressure. The result is that I have to weigh down the opposite side, but that wasn’t a big deal. I clamped to full pressure 2 of my strongest clamps per extension set, and they worked like a charm! I’m very pleased with them, and I’m going to keep them for sure.
I doubt that I’m the first person to make something like this, but I will say that I conceived of it without having seen them. It’s fun to invent solutions like this in my opinion. I’m almost as pleased with the clamp extensions as I am with the table! Well, maybe not that much.
