Here is the prototype case. Made from walnut burl veneer for the panels and normal walnut for the sides. Still need to find some black hinges, seem to have struck out finding black-nickel hinges to match the clasps. Can be felt lined and a briefcase insert put in or put in the mini-cell foam to make a pistol case. Learned some do’s and don’ts and still need to come up with some better ways to install the clasp nails.

Very nicely done, I love the walnut burl. I assume you have checked out Lee Valley for hinges, can’t say I remember seeing black-nickel any time I’ve been looking for hinges.

That’s a beautiful case. Love the veneer you used on the lid. Very nice.

Fantastic case. Outstanding veneer. That grain really pops on that walnut.

Keep it up.

Beautiful.

I was just trying to locate briefcase suede inserts. I think Rockler used to carry them, but they no longer have them. Does anyone know a source?

I could not find suede, I got my inserts from Reliable Hardware. The rest of the stuff came from HW Elf and the hinges I picked up today from HD.
