This ring holder is made out of canary wood with a cardinal bird molded out of epoxy putty. I was really just playing around with the epoxy to see what I could form it into and the bird turned out ok so I thought I would make something out of it.

After I had the bird made I painted it up like a cardinal then put two coats of clear epoxy resin on to protect the paint and make it shine. I drilled a dowel into the bottom of the bird to attach to the dish.

I chose canary wood for the ring dish because it seemed appropriate. I was kind of nervous about turning it because Ive never turned any bowls before but I found it was pretty easy to turn even with the grain orientation. I took it off the lathe and finished it with gloss polyurethane and cut out some felt lining for the bottom.

Thanks for viewing, Andy.

Thats really cool, especially considering it was your first time molding something. The bird came out great!
