Well, this is the first thing I have ever made out of wood in my entire life. The chess pieces themselves belonged to my Dad, according to him they were given to him in 1969 by a lady that did ceramics, they have been in storage for years and years. I was in my way home from work one day and thought how cool it would be to take a stab at woodworking so I stopped at home depot and bought a Ryobi table saw, a bench top router and some oak plywood and solid wood (both tools were very inexpensive, but they were what I could afford at the time) so I started cutting and routing, after many return trips to HD and six weeks later this is the end result. the table is 29” square and made from oak. the tallest playing piece is 9” inches tall and 2.75 inches in diameter.

after joining Lumberjocks and seeing the pure talent that all of you have has given me an overdose of inspiration and I Thank each and everyone of you for that. I have finally found a hidden passion I didn’t know I had.

That is beautiful. My youngest grandson made one this weekend on his spring break. First time for me and him to try this, turned out pretty good, not to your standards yet.

Very nice! I really like the design. First project? I can’t wait to see what you make in the future!

thanks everyone for the compliments , I will admit when I was making this I used oak trim that I bought at home depot that I stained myself, now that I’ve spent a little time in this hobby I see most guys would have made their own trim from a plain old board which I call real woodworking. at the time I didn’t have a clue what I was doing lol.

Sasha, that is a beautiful table!
