Love handle

My daughter’s been traveling around Italy for almost nine-months doing mini-apprenticeships.
She returned home and is quickly headed off again, so tonight we exchanged gifts.
She’s a pastry & dessert chef, a culinary artiste.
I made her a pen as a stocking stuffer—pens being new to me, everyone gets a pen, right?!?
But, I also made the little item holding her pen up for display: a rolling pin
of Osage orange and black walnut.

Take a look at the natural figure in the handle.

Life is so cool.

Gary: The suprises that you get when working with wood. What looks like ordinary Walnut turn out to be something else.

A very nice love token.

Is it just me, or does the grain form a little heart in that close up picture of the handle??

if that doesn’t show that this is a gift made from love, then nothing will! Looks fantastic Gary!

it might also be the only love handle that she brags about having!! – sorry, couldn’t resist…

I forgot to mention that I didn’t notice the Heart, but my wife noticed it right away. I guess I was looking for something else. It takes a females eye to see the smaller things in life.

The amazing thing is I didn’t see the heart while turning, finishing, polishing, or wrapping.
Only saw it while reviewing the photo on the digital camera to see if it was focused.
Then, I went back and looked at the handle—it’s as real and natural as can be.
I’m sooo tickled ;-)
Thanks for viewing.

I saw it right away, so what does that say about me?... Perhaps I’ve been outnumbered by the females in the house for far too long (wife, daughter and two cats, after moving out of a house with my mother and sister – dad wisely working 3rd shift) and things are rubbing off??? Should I go out and get a dog?

When your post was titled love handle and the first thing I saw was a rolling pin, I thought you were being funny. The heart is very nice though, makes it very special.

I have a dog… Though he is less of a man than he used to be… Aside from that… totally outnumbered… and I caught the heart immediately… Maybe that is a problem…?
