This is a stock rack I built for holding metal round, although it will work equally well for dowels etc. It is based off of the plans in the book “Uncle” Dave Gingery’s Shop Notebook http://www.lindsaybks.com/dgjp/djgbk/shopn1/index.html

Overall this was a simple project to complete and uses only 1×6 lumber. The most difficult part was shaping the handle. I actually broke one of the handles off when I tried to shape the outside after cutting the inside (in retrospect this was silly to attempt). The blade grabbed, and pop went the handle.

I have made two of these so far, and the two pictures are actually different units. The empty one I made for my dad, and the full one is sitting in my shop.

When I say the first pic my first thought was a pool cue rack. Looks good.
