Cherry Shaker Sofa Table

I had four projects that have been in different stages of completion. After finishing a Walnut Mid-Century Modern coffee table, I finished this sofa table. This is my second variation on Chris Schwarz Shaker End Table. I made a large desk last summer, and now this sofa table. It is for a friend and the dimensions were given to me by her.

Dovetails were cut by hand. Finish is plain Arm-R-Seal. It is already darkening and will be a rich, dark color in 9 months or so. I am considering switching my standard finish for cherry from Arm-R-Seal to clear and Garnet shellac topped by General Finishes High Performance. The speed and quality of sprayed finishes is winning me over (plus avoiding the oil based annoyances).

You achieved a nice even tone on this piece, looks great. Nice dovetails too.

Good work. I just finished a shaker table myself. I too have been steering myself away from oil based finishes. I just love the durabilty of poly or arm-r-seal.

Very nice clean table Charles. Your friend is fortunate.

Paul and Andy, thanks for the kind words. She had to work with me for 19 years, so she deserves it.
