A change of pace here. I have made various calls in the past and had a request for some for xmas presents. Well making one is no harder than making four so here they are. Actually there will be a dozen when I get done but this was what came off the lathe tonight. L-R Cypress and Cherry, White Oak, another type of Cherry and cypress, cocobolo.
I get a lot of my call material from a salvage company’s flooring dept. I can buy 1 or 100 pieces of whatever they have out of a box. A pass through the plainer and sander and glue up whatever strikes my fancy. Sometimes I get a surprise color, but that’s half the fun.

The timing of this project is right on time for me. I am starting the process of having some of these made for christmas presents. I love the character of the calls you have made. I am sure they will be well received. Happy Hunting

Nice job. I have been wanting to give this a shot. Do you turn and make the inserts too or do you buy them?

Very intrested in how the cypress call sounds…I can get tons of the stuff for free. My cousin owns a cypress mill !! Getting a lathe very soon an have been watching HOURS of duck call making video’s. Still unsure of what the reeds are made of. Seen that the sound box is 5/8” and learned to make the spindle to hold it. Still alittle sketchy on the reed holder and cork thing. BAFFELLED in Louisiana

Great project. How do I get on your Christmas gift list? I need a new varmint call! LOL Guess I’ll have to make one myself. Do you know why it’s illegal to use a turkey or varmint call at a gunshow? They are afraid it will attract lawyers…
