I followed the example set by Mario Rodriguez of the Philidephia Furniture Workshop with a couple of modifications. First, I mistakenly cut the dado for the shelf on the top inside instead of the bottom, so I just mirrored that on both and created a second drawer. That was a happy accident, and I think I actually like it better this way. The shelf in the middle is a nice size now. Second, I double-dovetailed the drawers with maple in the middle for a contrasting color. I did this on all four sides just because.
If I do another one of these, I might use all cherry except for the panel and drawer fronts or maybe the shelf. There I’d use maple. Also, the cabinet is a bit deep for a hanging wall cabinet. I’d resize it to be only half as deep.

This is a gorgeous cabinet. Adding a second drawer was a nice design element and the double dovetail is a beautiful detail. Nice choice of woods, too. Maple and cherry happen to be my favorite combination.

beautiful. Nice recovery from the “mistake” you mentioned. It makes me feel better when I hear people who do otherwise really nice work admit to an error… I thought I was the only one to mess something up… LOL.
Thought… need to hang the cabinet rather low to see inside the top drawer? Caused me to think about all the stuff we have that could be put there… stuff you want to keep, but don’t really need to get to very often. It would help you remember where you put it… oh yeah… the “TOP” drawer… LOL, again… \
