Box made of Honduras mahogany, leopard wood, Gabon ebony, hand-cut mother-of-pearl and paua shell. Dimensions are: 3 3/8” high x 9 1/2” long x 6 3/4” deep. Unfortunately, the quadrant hinges I special ordered for this box were defective. I will have to wait another 7-10 days before new ones arrive. The finish is good ‘ol Watco oil. Every other finish I tried (varnish and shellac) obscured the inlay.

Outstanding in design and workmanship!
It seems possible that you spent a month of Sundays creating this work of art.

Okay, now…. That doesn’t even belong on the same web site with the rest of us wood-butcherers.
Absolutely stunning! A few closeups of the inlay would be nice.

Beautiful, you should really use all the photo spaces though. Maybe some construction pics. Would love to see the process which gets to this end result.

Autumn,
Wonderfully designed and executed work. I especially like the attention that the feet got as well. What type finish was used? What are the approximate dimensions? Could we see inside? Sorry, for all the questions. I know a picture is worth a thousand words. However in this case it seems to have elicited as many questions for me. Very intriguing. I believe all the intricacies have piqued my interest in this work of Art. Congratulations on such a superb piece.
Sincerely,
Ken McGinnis

Thank you all for your wonderful comments. You guys keep raising the bar on me—not visa vera. I’m just trying to keep up! The finish is Watco oil; anything else obscures the inlay. I’ve added more pix and info as requested.

Autumn,
OK where are they??? I appreciate very much the additional pictures. They simply expound on the original and insure that the same craftswomanship exists through out this wonderful piece of Art. But where have you hidden the hinges Congratulations again on such a beautiful box.

Thanks again, Ken. I added an addendum to the description about the hinges, the finish and the size.
I ordered some expensive quadrant hinges but was disappointed in them when they arrived. One wasn’t machined properly and was difficult to open. The other was just plain sloppy in the joint. The replacement hinges won’t arrive for 7-10 days, and I didn’t want to wait before posting. I’ve had this box on my workbench long enough. It was time to throw it out there for inspection!
Autumn.
