My wonderful daughter pointed out to me the othe other day that she had run out of room on the simple medal display I had made her whe she was a freshman in High School. So…..
I had only a very little honey locust left over from the sofa table, but Rastus at Native Lumber and Sawmill had supplied me with a wonderful collection of georgeous black walnut, so with a little engineering on the fly, this is what I created.
My daughter is very active in a variety of athletic, acedemic, and artistic ventures, but our families love is fastpitch softball. For this display I attempted to emulate home plate, and the 3 bases, while attempting to utilize the beauty of the wood….all while trying to give a maximum amount of room for her medallion display (perhaps even challenging her to fill all the spots before she graduates).
Rather that hang this on the wall, I wanted to give the display some mobility so I threw together a simple easel.
A fun project that I am sure she will enjoy.
Thanks for letting me share.

Very nice, Trevor!
I’m sure your daughter is pleased, too.

Trev,
When I spotted the small picture on projects, it wasn’t clear what it was. After reading and seeing some of the medals on it, all the lights go on. Great symbolism and craftsmanship. Shows some artistic side to combine the theme with wood.
I’ve seen college girls fastpitch softball on cable, make sure you post if her school gets there. Would really like to root for an LJs daughter.
Steve.

All those darn medals cover up the beauty of the wood.
Nice job to both of you.

WOW she is active. Great work. You challanged her to fill it. What if she does and get a few extra? Don’t throw out the old stand.
