butterboard and wooden knife

Project by moshel posted 18 days ago 239 views 2 times favorited 8 comments Add to Favorites Watch

I made these as end of year present for my daughters teacher.
The butter board is modelled after degoos’s one. the wooden butter knife is my own idea. it turned really nice.
wood is (centre outwards) black walnut, Rimu, NZ maple

the knife backbone is black walnut, handle Heart Rimu
Finish is walnut oil on the board, wipe on poly on the knife.

If anybody tries to make the knife, make the sides of the handle less road. currently the knife tends to roll so that the blade face up.

-- The woods are lovely, dark and deep, but I have promises to keep...

BTW, Larry – I think you said somewhere that you used paper joints for this. I was too Lazy for this so just put a scrap with masking tape. I was wondering about even doing this – maybe just cut in the middle? do you think the change in curve will be apparent?
