Segmented Salad Bowl

Project by taidsturning posted 17 days ago 249 views 0 times favorited 11 comments Add to Favorites Watch

Even though its a little extra work, preparing the end-grain book-matched segments is worth the visual effect, I think. Of course it helps to have a strong end-grain such as the Zebrawood used here.

The bowl is about 10.5” in diameter and stands about 4.5” tall. The base is Canarywood, then Australian Blackwood, the Zebrawood separated with Bloodwood and topped with a Bloodwood rim.

I really like how the bookmatched endgrain elements provide something different at each section. Kind of like controlled randomness. Nice work!

That is a stunning combination of colors. The endgrain bookmatch is fantastic. I marvel at the turnings that I see here on LJ…and I am marveling at this one.

Well done. Be proud of this piece.

Fantastic design. The endgrain bookmatching was well worth it. Really catches the eye.

Beautiful work. I am wanting to do a segmented bowl, I only hope it looks half as nice as yours.
