I know it has been a while since posting but I have not been completely idle in that time. I completed the center base of the entertainment center, minus the base and crown moulding, which need to wait for the rest of the base to be added. The two side posts are 2×4 framing with plywood sides and poplar faces. The face frame was out of poplar. The floor, shelves and top are out of 3/4 sanded plywood. I used some left over oak to make the trim on the edge of the top and shelves. I also used Rockler’s jig-it for the shelf hardware, which made things rather simple. In retrospect I probably should have not made the shelves adjustable since the openings in the face frame aren’t very tall. I painted it so that it would look good by itself for now. It is kind of hard to find a lot of time to build right now so I knew it would have to sit as is for a month or so before I would be able to add more. So far the project has cost about $500 or so, but that includes most of the wood and hardware. I might need some more poplar before I am done. I intend to add raised panel doors in the future as well. I included a pic of the two posts that are for the top and one of the face frame for the upper storage cabinet, a last minute addition requested by SWMBO.
