I wanted a small project to work on this weekend that would allow me to use my new jointer. I’ve been thinking about building a wooden plane for a couple of months now so I decided that now was the time. The wood for this plane is red oak from an old bathroom cabinet door that I replaced. The blade is from an old Buck Bros. block plane that has long been retired. I haven’t been able to fine-tune the plane as of yet, but it may not be possible with the cheap blade that is in there. I may hit it with some BLO and wax for the finish.
P.S. Thanks to Philip Edwards for his informative website, as well as rentman (the other Phil) for his diy link.

Nice job! Looks like Lee J. has started something here.
Man, that is pretty good that you knocked out a plane over the weekend. Seems like it would be a fun project too.

Very good for a new father; how did you have time to work on such? It looks great.
Keep up the good work.

Very nice. I’m in the planning stage to make one myself. Need to pick up a couple of blade assemblies from Hock.

Great looking plane. I’ve bought a plane iron, hoping to make one someday. Where did you get your plans?

I have a Hock blade and chip breaker. I have been waiting for the chance to make myself a plane.
Too hot in the shop now to do anything so I will have to wait for the fall to do anymore

Thanks for the motivation. I order some hock blades, plans, and a kit today. I’m going to give it a run.
Here are links to plans and other info for folks considering making some.

Great work! Never try building a plane but whats this I think I hear the wheels a turnning. Or was that the lathe a turnning? Thanks for the kind words about the finish or my bathroom vanity and towers.
