Coat racks like these are how I started out. I try to find the “gnarliest” pieces I can, slab them, and cut into various lengths. Then comes the fun part – trying to decide the accent pieces and hangers that will adorn the final piece. The accent pieces come from all over – the Internet, novelty shops, antique shops, gift stores, and even the occasional tourist trap. They are mounted using regular 50lb wall anchors (if they can’t be anchored into a wall stud). The holes are closed using a plug. I haven’t made my own yet, but plan to in the not to distant future.
