Dr. Dave's bonsai display stand

A copy of a very old table
3 1/2” H x 18” L x 11 1/2” W

A friend of mine who is extensively into bonsai trees came to me with a picture of this antique Japanese display table. I was able duplicate the stand for him. The carved insert on the front and back was my first attempt at hand carving.

Dale, this is a beautiful table. It is loaded with details that create visual interest in the piece. And what is not to like about the wood choice (cherry happens to be my personal favorite).

How did you finish it?

Dale J Struhar Sr.,
Really nice job on the display table. In fact I like it so much that I’m going to favorite it and someday when I’ve got a chance, I’m going to replicate it intp a full size coffee table. Thanks so much for sharing and congratulations on a great build.

Sincerely,
Ken McGinnis

Another fantastic project. Beautiful work and the carving is super, especially for a first. You’re getting me even more interested in bonzai trees and accessories. Now I will probably have to find a good book on the subject as we don’t have courses available in my area. Is there one you could recommend?

One of our local nurseries did have a rather large bonzai type tree about 4ft. tall including the pot. I’m not sure if this qualifies as a real bonzai. They wanted kr 11,000 for it, or the equivalent of about $ 1,800. It was a very nice tree though.
