There is a story behind this headboard and it mostly revolves around my wife. First of all let me say this, i did not do the upholstery work, but I will take credit for it since it was my idea. My wife saw a similar headboard to this in the store, it cost a whopping $2500. I said, “yeah that is nice, but uh no” So I put my brain to work, and laid out a plan. I built a basic wood frame box out of plywood and (2×4’s) (yeah I said it) and presented the idea of taking this modified box to a lady that does upholstery. This lady works out of her garage and my wife told her she wanted the tufted button look and she said she could do it.
On the bottom I have a shot showing how it attaches to the frame. I actually made a small miscalcuation which i corrected with a decorative shim. In the original shot I have it leaning against the wall until I attached it. I have found that this particular head board needs a small brace in the center between the headboard and the wall. (not shown)
The bottom line is, the uphostery job cost $350 and the wood I had lying around. My wife loves it , we saved a boatload of cash and I can tell all my friends how cool a husband I am. However, I am still not allowed to lean against it while watching tv since I may “get it dirty” Go figure.

Nicely done talk about saving some serious cash. My wife wants to do something similiar in our guest room. We were planning to do something using pegboard so the buttons could be anchored easily. I’ll post it if we ever get around to it.
