-Made for good friends (Daragh and Michelle) as a wedding present, made in Switzerland and had to ship to Ireland.
Quoted a fortune to ship whole 180cm x 90cm x 60cm. So I finished it in sections and shipped in in three batches, finished the assembly in my mothers sitting room in Dublin.
Beech frame, douglas panels, aromatic cedar inlays in the base, antique brass hinges. The top centre panel has an Irish Claddagh around a trinity knot carving, symbols for love, loyalty, devotion and red hot love.
Hand cut M + T’s 44 in total, 13 panels raised on the table saw.
Finished with oil and wax.

Jembo,
Where were you when I got married? Any of the the three times? Lucky friends and a really nice piece of work. If Oncle Jules keeps it up my French is going to get better.

Wow…great chest, beautiful design. Lucky friends.
I had a similar shock when I was shipping the gates to my brothers home on Maui…..I’m glad he was paying for the shipping.
Je ne parle pas Francais…..despite 4 years in high school. Maybe I should have paid attention instead of talking to the girls.

Thanks Bob.
Bob, I know your gates, I walked by them just last weekend, in fact I have a holiday cottage close by.
Just kidding, congratulations on the summer awards, those gates are beautiful.
I shipped UPS, easiest to deal with, cheapest, no fuss,
I’m Irish, my french is so-so.

Fantastique! My accent is better than my comprehension – which is to say – pas trop mal pour un etudiante exchange, 14 ans apres!
What a great way around the shipping charges – so long as you were making the journey anyhow.

Beautiful chest, Jembo. No doubt they will treasure it for a lifetime. I’m building hope chests for my two daughters over the New England winter and you’ve further inspired me.
I know, it’s only rock ‘n roll, but I like it…
