I bought this chunk of flamming box elder from woodcraft over a year ago. I started staring at it and a lamp emrged. So I took away everything that didn’t look like what I had imagined. It is hollow. but not enough to disrupt the cavity in the front. So you can’t see the brass all thread going through the center. I bought the lamp shade and lamp accessories from lowes. The finish is a spray laquer.

Also some great looking wood. You just have to let wood age, before the right project comes into view. I don’t think I’ve ever designed a project and then went looking for wood. The wood was ususally there first.

Rodd, this is a beautiful lamp. The box elder has wonderful grain and coloration and you were right to listen to the wood. I am sure this was a fun project to do. Seeing posts like this make me regret not putting a lathe in my shop.
