my first hollow form

Project by aldente posted 23 days ago 227 views 0 times favorited 8 comments Add to Favorites Watch

Borrowed a kelton mini hollower from a friend. I watched a few videos and asked questions. And this is the result. I also tried a celtic knot, need some aligment work. Made from Cherry (ball) bubinga (top) and colored oak venners.

Nice turning. You are right, the lines don’t line up but is still a nice design.

Keep it up.

Great job! We all are so critical of our own work….even though it is out of alignment…it still looks good as a geometric shape…..the shift makes it creative….

I have yet to try any hollow form, but I am going in that direction. How did you like the kelton mini hollower ? Great first attempt, looks good. Shame about the alignment in the knot….. But I’m sure you will get it right the next time.

I have to agree with Reggie. The celtic knot that you added to the turning gives it a unique look. It looks like a creative design detail and not a flaw by any means. :) Rodd, you certainly have been busy!

toyboy I really like the keltons. They do take a little getting use to. your only using a small tip to cut, and of course you can’t see what your cutting so everyting relys on your thiskness gauge. I used a coat hanger bent in a way that I could gauge the wall thickness. Lots of fun. I would recommend hollow form to any serious turtner. From what I am told by Chris, who teaches turning at woodcraft, the kelton’s are better then the sorby’s. I guess less chattering.
