The picture of the other gentleman’s entertainment center got me remembering my first entertainment center. I made it about 8 years ago out of MDF with borrowed tools (and bought a lot of my first hand tools in the process). I custom-fit it to my used rear-projection TV. I built a recess behind the CD/DVD/VHS rack to hold the subwoofer hidden out of sight. On the right side, there were adjustable shelves for components and a sliding drawer for Xbox controllers, CD scratch removers, etc. The whole thing was on hidden casters so it could be moved to adjust cables, etc.
My friend appropriately dubbed it the “Entertainment Death Star.”
You can guess how long it lasted once I got married. :)
I did learn a lot while making it. I forgot to calculate the width of the primer and paint, so all the shelves were way too tight for the cabinets. :)
