Sculptured Maple & Black Walnut

I really enjoyed building this box. I had a couple grainy Figured Maple boards on my shelf and a little of the Black Walnut my son had give me at Christmas.
I enjoy sculpting the wood and being creative with the wood. Now sanding it all down to a smooth 300 grit is a chore.
I used the Black Wanut to highlight the lid, and was really pleased with it.
The interior wood of the box was so pretty of grain, I finished it and did not install the leather suede as I normally put in my boxes.
I put two coats of Tung Oil on it for the color. Lightly sanded it and put four coats of guitar Lacqure on it.
Enjoy.

Very cool. I would love to see a blog about the technique you used to sculpt the outside of the box.

I am so jealous of you guys that can carve and make such beautiful projects. It seems like you know how to get into the soul of the wood. Woodworking at its best!

Great looking sculpted box! Kind reminds me of vanilla ice cream, with chocolate sprinkles on top!

This is absolutely beautiful, Duckster, and you’ve done a fine job on it.
