Hello LJs,
I finally finished these Everyday Ellens today. As you can see, they are made from a variety of woods: curley maple, walnut, cherry and zebrawood. They are finished with 3 coats of wipe on poly gloss. I couldn’t decide on shape and wanted to try the octagon. Remember that post on how critical we are of our own work? Well this is an example. The octagon has one edge that is slightly off… and it drives me crazy. No one else has noticed But, there is no way to fix it now! The round one with the center circle was also a “mistake” – it shifted slightly in the glue up jig I made but everyone likes that one the best – they say it looks like a flower! That one was “corrected when I cut the circle.
I still aspire to do those tumbling blocks that Larry, David and Lisa have done. That is on the list.
Thanks for looking.
Ellen
(I did consider sending one to Vivian but the shipping is worse than to Australia ;-)

I love your projects Ellen. I agree with Larry, Elegant says it better. Everyday doesn’t quite do it justice.
Great choice of wood.
Thanks

man, you are sooo lazy Ellen…
I like the cross grain direction in the zebra wood. It works great in this context.
for the hexagon – just say that it’s ON PURPOSE! – done deal.

Very nice work Ellen, and beautiful results.I think most of us want perfection, but never really get it. Maybe that is the charm of handmade products.

aptly named- elegant.. or, is it eloquent? or, graceful beauty… ? or, luscious ladies? If I were to run off with one of them, I’d probably grab the one with the center piece. If she was already claimed, I’d grab the straight edged one. Actually, I can’t distinguish Cinderella from a step-sister… they all look really good. Oh well, I suppose they already have a fine home…
Very well done.
I go along with poroskywood… a little how I did it detail would be nice.

These are beautiful. Guess that I’m missing something here, though. Are these similar to a Lazy Susan – with a turntable. If so, perhaps they should be called Elaborate Ellens??? Great work with the different designs and woods – and I can’t see any of the mistakes you mention, honest! And what’s with the “hussy Vivian” – inside joke? Wonder how these would look with purpleheart, bloodwood (or redheart), and perhaps ebony (like any of us could afford it!)?

elegant work from an elegant lady…i love them…...ya know Ellen i was taught a long time ago from an Indian lady that they always have a slight flaw to let the evil spirits out…...so …just in case ya need that later down the road…...i say bravo on a well done and beautiful job…...

Thank you all for your kind comments.
I truly am humbled by your complements.
I am not really much of an “elegant” type but I appreciate the thought. I am much more an “everyday” type.
However… I guess I have to call them “elegant ellens” in deference to my LJ recommendations.
Thanks again friends.

Ellen, This week I gave your design a try. I now give you alot of credit, and take my hat off to you. These need to be on the money dead nuts to go together. I need to find a better way to line things up at 22.5 degrees on my Table Saw, I’m not sure what tool I need to get to make this angle come out perfect. I might try to dial this in on a sled of some sort. I will have a cup of tea in your honor…. wait that’s not tea?
