That is very beautiful. How do you “hand rub” shellac? Thanks.

Very nice work. You folks who build boxes and chests with mitered corners/splines are inspiring me to give it a try. It’s a very nice detail.

Thank you all for the kind words. The client wanted a simple box made out of maple so I thought dressing it up a little with the walnut keys would make it look a little more special.
Don the “Bird Peck Maple” As the tree grows birds peck away at the trunk looking for bugs. As the wound heals and the tree grows little bits of bark are grown over and get imbedded in the wood and you end up with flecks of bark throughout the wood.
Tom and Jim, yes it could also be called French polishing, all though I don’t tend to do a true French polish.

This is one of the best built boxes I’ve seen so far. The corner keys are an excellent and well fitting addition to the contrast in color. The inlaid walnut on the lock housing was another great addition. I also appreciate the inner box and supports design. I am favoriting this box also. Thanks.
