Hello, This is my largest project to date. Book matched Walnut slab 6’ 3’ X 34×1 3/4. I made this for my Daughter & Son-In-Law for their cabin @ the lake about a year ago. I purchased the slab but the remainder of the Walnut came from my Dad’s Estate so it does have some history. The butter flies are grain matched Curly Cherry. The finish is 5 coats Waterlox Original sanded between each coat & a final coat of Waterlox Satin. The Cabin is unheated in the Minnesota winter so I was concerned about wood movement therefore there are 10 butterflies on the underside of the table top as well. After 2 winters it still looks perfect. Questions, comments, concerns always welcomed. thanks for looking…...............................Jack

thats a beautiful slab of walnut and i like your base but for my taste there are just too many butterflies.why butterflies on the knots?on a knot if there are voids i fill with epoxy and have never had one open up.thats the interest and beauty of the wood.this is just my opinion but sometimes less is more, still a great job.

Beautiful bookmatched slab table. You certainly have the bowties down pat.

That’s a beautiful slab! I’ll bet its rustic beauty fits in perfectly in their cabin!
