These are photos from a few of the bent shaft canoe paddles that I custom build. Averaging 16 to 16 ounces each they are built of western red cedar and sometimes a bit of eastern white cedar or pine, they have a 12 degree bend in the shaft and come with a 4 ounce S-Glass and Epoxy wrap on the blades.

I’m coordinating a Boy Scout project making 24 bent shaft paddles and have no clue what I’m doing. Never made a paddle before, but these are exactly what I envisioned and they are incredible. Can you give me a little info on the actual construction and what type or brand of epoxy you used. It would be greatly appreciated.

Bladedust… I’d be happy to help you out. Send me an email at joe.o.paddles@gmail.com and I’ll offer what I can.
As for the question on the epoxy, I use West Systems. And for clear-coating over the fiberglass, you have to get the correct hardener that gives the clearest finish.
I’d be happy to help you out any way I can.
On topic of the Boy Scouts, we are hosting a film festival in less than 2 weeks, the Reel Paddling Film Festival. We are making a donation from the proceeds to our local chapter of Scouts Canada here in Thunder Bay Ontario.

Cheers… Joe O’

Joe, I emailed you a couple of days ago, but I’m not sure if it got through. Let me know and I’ll resend, if not.

Got it just a little bit ago when catching up on emails. I’ll send you some information soon, most likely tomorrow morning while enjoying an extra cup of coffee out in the woodshop :)

I wasn’t sure cause I’ve been having some “technical” issues, but I’m glad you got and whenever you get around to it is fine. I appreciate the help.
