I just finished this project for Valentines Day. I recently bought a new Lie-Nielsen Dovetail Saw and wanted to give it a try. The box is made out of Cherry and Walnut – Walnut bottom and lid and Cherry Sides. It took some time, this is the second dovetail box that I have done – the first was Spalted Maple and Walnut, however I made that with 3/4” in sides and that didn’t look great so that is in the unfinished pile.

The inside of the box is 8” long by 5” wide and overall 3 1/2” tall. The sides are 1/2” Cherry and the bottom is 1/4” walnut. The joints aren’t perfect, but I was extremely happy with the outcome. I finished it with the Generals Satin finish – meant to buy the Arm-R-Seal but got distracted in the local Woodcraft store and got the wrong one.

Overall, I am pleased and I really like my new saw – the operator just needs a little more training with hand work.
