Corner Desk

My wife has wanted a corner desk for the office since we moved in January of 2015. I designed the desk in Sketchup which helped out tremendously. The overall dimensions are. 31.25” high x 91” Long x 30 ” deep on the long side, and 72” Long X 25” deep on the short side. The base and drawers are made out of plywood and the top out of 2×6. I added a 3/4” roundover to the edge to soften it up.

I applied a pickling stain mixture that I found online that starts with a Dark Walnut base stain followed by a White Pickling stain. I then used 4 coats of Polycyclic as a topcoat. I was wanting to use an oil based Ploy but was afraid it might have yellowed after curing.

My wife picked out the drawer pulls and I added Accurid full extension soft close drawer slides. The drawers are all 26” deep.

It’s not without mistakes, but the main thing is, the wife is happy.

That is AWESOME! My wife has been after me for sometime to replace the desk in the bedroom with a corner version. Would you mind sharing the Sketchup?

Thanks
I can definitely share the Sketchup File. It is in 2013 Sketchup format, here is a dropbox link to the .skp file. I made a lot of tweaks to it during the build so might have to check some of the measurements and details.

I liked the walnut stain, it looked good, not the pickling over the walnut.
What brand stain was the walnut stain?

I think the pickling detracts from the overall looks. Sorry, just my opinion, and you know what opinions are like.

Looks like a nice build though.

I completely agree. This was for my wife, if it was my choice walnut would have won.

It’s a Minwax clear tint base which is water based. You actually get the tint mixed in at the paint counter.

Looks great! And they’re not mistakes…it’s character.

I’d love to make something like that for my home office. Very well done!!
