how I get my wood

Project by socalwood posted 31 days ago 956 views 0 times favorited 11 comments Add to Favorites Watch

One of the ways I get my wood is from federal firewood sales .These beautiful old growth cedars and pines were dead snags and beetle kill from a nearby mountain being cleaned to help prevent wildfires. They were delivered today. With them I make specimen slabs ,entry doors ,gates, wall paneling ,architectural trim ,tables ,bar tops ,passage doors, cabinets, patio covers, and furniture. The scraps go to the local high school for their programs and the sawdust gets mulched out to grow new cedar trees that I give away . Another use for “fire” wood—

Wow, that is a lot of lumber that you have there, Rob. And it is wonderful to see this kind of recycling effort.

What a cool operation, would love to watch trees become the boards we come to love. Being a city boy its alot like buying meat we never see the process. Very cool!

Lots of lumber there! You do have your work cut out for you in the next few months. Rob save a bit for the fireplace though, it is supposed to be a cold wet winter from the forcasts…

-- Never board, always knotty, lots of growth rings

I never have heard of a firewood sale. You Americans have the best ideas, we don’t have anything like this I am sorry to say.Anyway would you’re guys also slice them up for the customer for a price? Watching all that beautiful wood made me feel great and joyous today Alistair

Jed, We are ready for cooler weather. It has been freezing at night and making a mess of my chili peppers.
Jim, Thanks for the comments. It just seems like we have been growing constantly since I started woodworking.
Scotsman, You bet we slice all this stuff up for a price! For all of the lumber and projects that go through my shop, we just never seem to have enough.
