keenon panels for bar front in phoenician hotel scottsdale az, these panels were mdf with rays of the sun patern cnc routed into it then a gold resin and i mean real gold was poured onto the sheets. installation was very difficult because i had to layout in the parking garage in a makeshift shop i made consisting of 2 parking stalls. both width and length had to be cut to fit the bar front and all the pattern lines had to intersect with 1/2 inch bronze quirks in between. i cut the panels with a festool ts75 plunge saw, kinda scary cut because panels were 20000 bucks and no room for error. everything came out nice after about 30 elavator trips from the parking garage to the top floor and i am now a very firm believer in festool.

As a resident of the Valley, I know the importance of a commission at the Phoenician. Beautiful work that you should be very proud of. When it has to be right, Festool really does work.

Outstanding work Blaine. I got the jitters just reading about the cost of those panels you sawed. That’s because I’m pretty good at messing things up a bit, but it looks like you did it perfect the first time, whew!. Enjoyed the pics. We don’t have many really nice restaurants in Norway regardless of price range, and that one is really fantastic. Put more pics in if you have them so I can see what I’m missing (that is if I could afford it in the first place). thanks for posting this even if it does make me a little homesick.

thanks jim, the owners liked it so well they sent me to kauai hawaii for 3 months this summer to work on the st.regis hotel in princeville. mostly custom millwork in oak, nothing like the phoenician but the view was incredible and thats where i got the wood for the jewelry box i posted and the pic of the tree was taken near kapa on my profile. i never dreamed my woodworking would take me all the way to kauai

... and I worry about messing up the cut on a small piece of poplar… wow… you have to have some nerves to go along with skill when you cut panels like that.
